With a population of approximately 295,000 people, Ljubljana is among the smallest capitals of a tiny Alpine country, the Republic of Slovenia. According to Greek legend, Jason, the leader of the Argonauts, whose quest was to find the Golden Fleece, fought and killed a monster in the marshes near Ljubljana. This monster evolved into the dragon that today is present in the city coat of arms and flag.
