Ottawa is the capital of Canada. It lies on the border between Gatineau, Quebec (French Canada) and Ontario (English Canada). Its current metropolitan population is approximately 1 million people. The settlement in place of present Ottawa was first discovered by Europeans in 1610 via the Ottawa River and established contact with local indigenous tribes who had lived there for the past 6500 years.
