Kotor is a coastal town in Montenegro, at the far end of the Bay of Kotor, and it is the most indented part of the Adriatic Sea. With a population of 13,500, this old Mediterranean port dating back to 5000 years BC is surrounded by Venetian period fortifications. Kotor is flanked on all sides by steep mountains measuring over 1000 meters. Famously, Kotor is known for its large population of cats, which has become a city symbol.
