The ultimate essence of chiaroscuro resides in duality. The images in this series arise from a desire to explore the subtle yet powerful dialogue between elements that seem to oppose each other, such as light and shadow, fullness and emptiness, presence and absence. Rather than following a documentative or scientific path, my approach is grounded in reflection and philosophy. I treat these dialectical relationships as the true protagonists within the frame.
In each photograph, the interplay of light and dark, of occupied and vacant space, becomes more important than the literal subject depicted.
The scene is a stage, yet what matters most is the tension, balance, and harmony between these forces as they shape perception.
The images invite viewers to look beyond the visible forms and recognise how contrast itself can carry emotion, define structure, and lead the eye. In this way, chiaroscuro becomes not only a technique, but a way of thinking about the world and our place within it.
