Architectura Transtopica: Totems of a Journeyman
The project delves into using architectural structures as metaphors for expatriation, mobility, evolving identity, and the absence of a fixed location. Vibrantly hued structures, facades, and intricate architectural elements take centre stage, appearing mundane yet intertwined with the human experience. Encounters occur serendipitously across countries I've lived and journeyed to (Greece, France, Italy, UAE, USA, Australia), transcending specific confines.
"Expatriation" is departing one's native land for temporary foreign residence, distinct from permanent immigration. Having lived as an expatriate for 15+ years, I'm intrigued by interactions with architecture catalyzed by non-specific locations. These reenactments depict my life's trajectory. During my travels, I seize out-of-context locales and structures, metamorphosing into personal symbols, embodying my journey and shifting identity. These markers shape an individualised, imaginary 'home' within imagery.
